perfume and cologne

This year my neighbors and I decided to have a 'theme' for our annual neighborhood Christmas party. We generally just give people a price range for the gifts they buy and go from there, but this year we thought it would be interesting to have perfume and cologne themed gifts. That meant that when we get together that everyone who brings a gift needs to bring perfume and cologne, or something related to perfume and cologne, such as scented bath products, lotions, oils, etc.

We decided that we would try a themed party this year, and if it went well, then we'd maybe think about changing the theme each year. It's something different, and we figured if the perfume and cologne theme wasn't received well, then we'd maybe skip the theme the following year, but at first we wanted to give it a try. When we sent out the invitations in November, we let everyone know that their gift had to either be perfume and cologne, or at least a gift that was perfume and cologne related. We immediately received several calls with questions about what type of perfume and cologne they should buy, but we left that entirely up to the individual. Everyone had a maximum that they could spend, and the rest was up to them.

Last night we had the party, and I was surprised to see that everyone turned out for the festivities. We've been having quite a bit of snow, so I half way expected some of the people to stay home, but everyone was there, and everyone had perfume and cologne related gifts. As each person arrives, we put a number on the gifts they bring and then put them under the tree. Then when the time came to open the gifts, I gave everyone a number, and they received the perfume and cologne gift with the coinciding number. My next door neighbor ended up with the perfume and cologne gift that I'd ordered, and she said that she had been wanting to try the CK so I was happy that she drew my number. I think everyone enjoyed the theme, and I don't think anyone had duplicate gifts, so that was fun. I think next year we'll do the themed gift idea again, only we have a year to decide what the theme will be.
